July in Flint - III

One of the most memorable experiences I had in Flint was the evening after the stand-off. A man named Donald Arnold was killed in a hit and run near the intersection of Martin Luther King Avenue and Ruth Avenue and his family and friends held a vigil in the parking lot that he had just left when he was killed. After the stand-off, I was feeling pretty jaded. It's hard going into a situation like that and not feeling awful about being there. However, when I arrived, everyone was so happy that someone from the media was there to share their story. It was really great after a tough day to remind me why I do what I do.
